The role of government is very important for the fair trade movement and for many countries are involving in the fair trade movement is underway based on the support of the government. Since 1999, for example, the UK Department for International Development of the United Kingdom (DFID) started with about 190 million pounds (about 38 billion) supported by government and has the ongoing support for fair trade movement. A variety of activities for strengthening fair trade movement through British government support such as the promotion of Fair Trade Town, schools and campaigns.
